Don taught Spanish and history for 34 years in Wichita, Kansas and Wheat Ridge CO, as well as at Regis University, Denver, and at Otero Junior College, La Junta, CO.

He was responsible for Interpretive Programs at John Martin Reservoir for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as well as volunteering at Bent’s Old Fort, NHS, La Junta, CO, Four Mile House, Denver, CO, Kit Carson House, Rayado, NM, Fort Uncompahgre, Delta, CO, Boggsville, Las Animas, CO, El Mercado at El Pueblo, Pueblo, CO.

He served both the Bicentennial Commemoration of the Lewis & Clark Expedition and Pike Bicentennial Commemoration Committee, presenting Lewis and Clark; and Pike to schools and civic groups.

Recent publications include: “Pike’s Southwestern Expedition: Outfitted or Illfated?” [To Spare No Pains; Pikes Peak Library District, Clausen Books]; and “and the Patient Recovered: Medicine on the Santa Fe Trail and at Bent’s Fort” also with the Pikes Peak Lib. District.
